NATIONAL CONVENTION
 
The National Convention is held at World Series of Philately (WSP) stamp shows.  It moved around the country to different shows.  The Annual Board of Directors meeting and the Annual Membership Meeting are held at the National Convention.  Often there is a speaker at the Annual Membership Meeting.  The Society always sets up a booth at the show to sell books and DVDs and to sign up new members and the Society provides numerous awards for exhibits.  The Society also offers scholarships to young exhibitors. Generally the Society puts on a seminar that is open to the public.

SESCAL 2010, Oct. 1-3, Los Angeles, CA
CHANGES IN DATES AND LOCATION:  SESCAL 2010 will take place from Friday October 1 through Sunday October 3 at the Los Angeles Airport Hilton Hotel.  It is a short shuttle ride from the airport, just down the street from our prior venue.  Rooms are reserved at the special rate of $85 per night, plus tax.  Self parking in the hotel garage is $7 per day. There are many good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

REGIONAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS

Regional Membership Meetings are held at various stamp shows around the country.  A booth is set up to sell books and DVDs and to sign up new members, and a General Membership Meeting is held at the show.  Often there is a guest speaker.  Generally the Society puts on a seminar that is open to the public.  A China Stamp Society "Best Exhibit of China" award is presented.

RECENT REGIONAL MEETINGS
 
The Society held a Regional Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA at APS StampShow 2009, August 6-9.  The China Clipper magazine won a Vermeil Award in the literature competition for periodicals.  In addition to the Champion of Champions competition there were 658 frames of open competition. Member Hugh Lawrence received a Gold Medal and the CSS Best China Award for his exhibit, 'The Late Civil War Forerunners and Provisional Issues of East China: Philatelic Footprints on the Road to the Liberation of Shanghai.'  Member Eliot A. Landau received a Gold Metal for his exhibit, 'The 5¢ China War Resistance Issue of 1942: It’s Proof, Issue, First Day Covers and Postal Uses.'
Friday morning we put on our ever-popular seminar 'Exhibiting For Beginners.'

The Society and its Chiu Chin Shan Chapter held a Regional Meeting at WESTPEX 2009, April 24-26, 2009, at the Airport Marriott in San Francisco, California. There was a meeting of the Chapter during the show followed by a seminar on 'Exhibiting For Beginners.' The Chiu Chin Shan chapter of the CSS serves the San Francisco bay area. The Society and its North Texas Chapter held a Regional Meeting at APS AmeriStamp Expo/TEXPX February 20-22, 2009, at the Arlington Convention Center in Arlington, Texas. The Society put on its seminar on 'Exhibiting For Beginners.' The North Texas CSS Chapter serves the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. For information on the chapter contact Aaron Li at 972-207-1636.

The Society held a regional meeting at APS STAMPSHOW 2008, August 14-17, in Hartford, CT, at the Connecticut Convention Center.  The Society had a booth selling books, DVDs, the new membership pins and signing up members.  Twenty-two members attended the show and sales of books, DVDs and pins were brisk.  Each evening members got together for cocktails and dinner. 

The Society held a regional meeting at the St. Louis Stamp Expo 2008, Feb. 29 and Mar. 1-2, at the Renaissance St. Louis Hotel. The Stamp Expo is an APS World Series of Philately qualified show that featured 50 dealers, a US post office sub-station, a stamp auction, seminars, stamp exhibits, a special youth area and numerous prizes and awards.  The Society had a table helping visitors with identification of Chinese stamps, selling books and DVDs and signing up new members.



LOCAL STAMP SHOWS

The Seattle Washington Chapter of the Society held a Local Meeting at PIPEX (Pacific International Philatelic Exhibition) May 30-31 and June 1, 2008, at the Seattle Center. The Society had a table to sign up new members.  The show is a World Series of Philately show sponsored by the Northwest Federation of Stamp Clubs.  For additional information on the Seattle Washington Chapter contact Dennis Spice at 215-925-5540 or dennis_spice@hotmail.com.

2009 Omaha Stamp Show

H. James Maxwell received a Gold Medal and the APS Research Medal for his exhibit, ‘Rates During the Post-War Chinese National Currency Era,’ and a Gold Medal, the Best Single Frame Exhibit Award, the APS Medal of Excellence (1940-80) and the American Philatelic Congress Award for his exhibit, ‘Nationalist China's Last Commemoratives.’  Hugh Lawrence received a gold Medal for his exhibit, ‘The Late Civil War Forerunners and Provisional Issues of East China: Philatelic Footprints on the Road to the Liberation of Shanghai.’
