Re: Peonies

Been there, done that. But now retired and enjoying it immensely.

Yes, I have the time and willingness to spend on stamps.

Best wishes to all.

Re: Peonies

I certainly do not think your finding nor the stamp situation is in the category of a "small footnote." I have gone back through my collection and hope others might too (listening Wilbur Yu?). As of right now I have looked at Scott #'s 600 to 800. I am surprised at how many sets are mixed like the P...

Re: C8

1950? Reprints are on bright paper, so the PRC authorities certainly were familiar with paper differences way before the 1964 issues. Got ahead of myself. Correction needed in Williams but for quite some time many in America and elsewhere assumed the reprints were not postally valid.

Re: Peonies

Roman, If I remember right, in the first report from the Institute for Analytical Philately there was a paper that showed someone trying to mathematically estimate how many of a particular stamp existed based on the number of times it appeared at auction. It is apparently a technique widely used in ...

Re: Peonies

Surprising is a good term. I checked mine. #1 had some slight luminesce, but I attribute that to contact with something else. Only one example (used) of five. #'s 8,9,13,14,and 15 absolutely luminesce. I have looked at mint, CTO and postally used copies. All copies in all categories luminesce bright...

Re: Peonies

Still have not gotten to your Peonies yet, apologies. But looked at single stamps, seten stamps, and S/S of the C106, mint, CTO, and used. My head is spinning. Will tabulate and post what I found here this weekend. At this point just say I am surprised at what I found, and it does not make any sense...

Re: Peonies

Please do post what you can. Not sure the scan will show the UV effect too well, but try. I too am running into some questions about UV and Chinese stamps. I from time to time go back and look at early issues. I am wondering when high bright paper came into use purposefully, or if it was of such lit...

Re: eBay Sellers - China Stamp Society Findings

I was busy and failed to note the July issue of The China Clipper. In the "Stamps To Watch Out For" column in the July issue, 10 users were identified as selling spurious stamps. Cities of origin are primarily in the PRC and the US. Also note that Louis Mangin, owner of Zurich Asia In Hong Kong has ...

Re: eBay Sellers - China Stamp Society Findings

A well read part of each The China Clipper , the official publication of the China Stamp Society (CSS) is called STAMPS TO WATCH OUT FOR. In the May, 2018 issue 16 sellers are identified. Note that the CSS has found that posting images of the fakes/forgeries/questionable items often allows the forge...

Re: 716-31 Huangshan Set

I have tried over the years to choose my favorite PRC stamps. But to be honest, I think there are many, too many, to choose just one set. But you are right, this set is certainly one of the best. If you think the stamps are special, I hope you have already, or will in the future spend some time on H...
