Hong Kong Martyrs

I have just started to try and classify my HK Martyrs, using 600dpi scans & Photoshop to help measure distances & perf guages. That is fairly straightforward - so far it seems most narrow are about 19.2mm and most wide about 19.8mm. Chan states narrow is 19mm and wide anything over 19.25mm, Ma doesn't mention this feature. I always have problems with paper types, which seem to me to be very subjective. I have Ma 1998 and Chan 1992 and they fundamentally disagree, Ma stating that 'Group 5' (1c,2c,4c,5c,15c,20c,25c,40c) paper & gum type was thinner paper & thicker gum, whereas Chan lists this set of values on thick paper, thin gum. Assuming I could tell the difference, which is correct?
