Re: Expertizing

And please remember, at both the APS and CSS most often three different people look at each patient. All have to agree it is genuine.

You get your money's worth in my opinion, more than actually.

Expertizing

I was at a major US stamp show this weekend, Sarasota National in Sarasota, Florida. Saturday I sat a dealer's booth for a good while looking through his selection of covers and overheard he and a customer talking. The customer had recently purchased several expensive (to me) covers. He wanted the d...

Re: Is this authentic?

First off, it is not wise to say if a stamp with value is authentic form an online image. But here I go, silly me. Philip Ireland's The Large Dragons is my go-to book on these. On pages 24 and 25 he gives very clear and thorough diagrams of all three values. Given that it is an online image, I would...

Re: eBay Sellers - China Stamp Society Findings

Fellow Collectors,

This new generation of forgeries coming out of Taiwan is more dangerous than anything we have ever seen before.

Look at the current offerings on eBay by seller majj-qwerty.

Everything currently offered is a forgery,

Re: PRC New Year's stamps

I am not familiar with either of those pictured dog breeds. Are they supposed to represent a specific breed, or just a general "dog" stamp.

Thanks for the heads up.

Re: PRC Catalogue(s)

I was at my local library using a 2018 edition of the Scott Catalogue for China and noticed this catalogue is advertised there. Scott has gotten too expensive for me, so I use the library copies.

color missing/changelings

In the last several years there have been quite a few new stamp issues coming from the PRC with colors missing, colors shifted, and colors changed.

Wondering what you think of these, pro and con?

Re: Dangerous items in Auctions

I find N.C. Yang's information on S/S's in the catalogue most helpful in these situations. Always check dimensions, especially on souvenir sheets and buy stamps in imperf pairs.

Good observation.

Re: Scott 2295-2300, Yang J172

I examined all my mint and used stamps in these sets under both long wave and short wave UV light. Not sure you need to go to that much trouble. Besides, I got some confusing results. In natural light, there are definite differences in the paper. On a block of 4 mint 4 fen Scott PRC 2295, Yang J394 ...

Re: PRC Catalogue(s)

Some comments on the two catalogues above. I am going to use the R1 set as a comparison. But before I do, note that printing and publishing technology is advancing as is almost everything. The Yang catalogue is getting close to ten years old, and that makes for a big difference in photography, print...
