Kerr 87 Kai Ping

Join Roman and Simon as we do our best to test the listings made by Kerr and later by Chan. What has been missed? Which overprints have been assigned to the wrong towns? What is genuine and what is suspect? - You get the idea......

Kerr 87 Kai Ping

Post by admin » Mon Oct 16, 2017 8:09 am

There seems to be some disagreement in catalogues about the stamps issued here (although all the experts agree that the stamps are Mukden Types).

Kerr lists three stamps T155 2f, 4f, and 5f (I attach an image of the first two).

Chan (page 800) lists two sets, the first (for which he has a sketch) contains a 2f and 5f stamp. The second looks the same as Kerr's set and contains a 1f and 4f.

Luzitano, who has made a special study of such stamps, lists these overprints (FT54) on a 2f, 4f and the 10f friendship issue, plus a 4f with a slightly larger chung.

Chan links the town with Shwang Kang, Northwest of Chang Chun, Kerr and Luzitano both place Kai Ping in Fengtien.

So you will see - quite a bit of confusion.

My thinking is to disregard Chan and add a 5f to the list issued by Luzitano and we might have the full picture.

Any thoughts?

Simon!

Ask and ye shall receive. The 5f probably is in this suboffice of Kai-ping in Fengtien Shen:

The overprints are clearly different from the other set.

This favor cancelled piece is all I have ever seen of this specific office.

Simon,

Thank you!! I am filling in the pictures and maps etc. right now. Then the bibliography. That is how close we are!

Then I will have time and organization to add to your Website. BTW, I love your rate charts!!

You have some wonderful discoveries on the site!

You are building your data base just like I did: one discovery at a time. Over decades it starts to reveal a picture
that can't be summarily dismissed.

I am grateful to you!

George
